Well, Christmas is now storming rapidly towards us isn't it? Are you ready? I know I am not, as I still have gifts to make, Meal and Seating Plans to make, favours and place cards to make, thank you cards to get started, and sadly, 3 sympathy cards to make. Yes, 3 family/friend bereavements in the space of just two weeks! Somehow, even when expected, somehow bereavement seems so much worse at Christmas Time.
But Christmas waits for no man, and so the preparations continue
But we have a family tradition that unites our family, wherever they are in the world.
At 3pm on Christmas Day, a candle is lit and a toast made for those family and friends who are no longer with us.
It isn't a sombre event, it is an uplifting one, and we spend time every Christmas talking, laughing and sometimes shedding the occasional tear (but in a fond way) of remembering the people we have loved and lost, often telling fond and funny anecdotal stories , like my Grandmother bobbing along in her electric buggy as the refuge collectors followed behind her picking up the Christmas gifts she had just purchased and putting them back in her buggy basket ... for the pressies to just bounce out again!!
Anyway, Todays card is in memory to My Nanny Faulkner
She was an amazing seamstress and all round thrifty crafter. She taught me SO many crafts as a child
And so todays little Gift Idea is just the sort of thing she would have made, and I hope you enjoy it,
The heart is made from Clematis Stems, soaked in water, and then bent into the heart shape. Linen Thread has been wound around to secure the stems, but don't bind them to perfectly as you want it to be an organic looking heart,
Now, I have used the Special Edition Single Stamps that were issued last year, but you could just as easily use the Bright & Beautiful Stamp Set and Die Cut the largest of the stars using the Stars Framelits.
I inked up the stamp with Versamark, and before stamping the cardstock, I inked the stamp with Cherry Cobbler Ink. Stamp and dust with Clear Embossing Powder. Remove the excess powder and heat set with a Heat Tool. Die Cut the star.
I used a Hot Melt glue Gun to stick the embossed star onto the Heart. If you don'd have a Glue Gun, then either Glue Dots or Fast Fuse Adhesive would work OK,
Next use some more Linen Thread, to thread on a large Jingle Bell and tie a double knot, the thread this onto a Beaded Key Tassel. You could also make a beaded tassel if you have an embroidery skein (tightly bine one end to create a loop, and cut the opposite end to give you the tassel) and add some beads.
Secure the Bell & Tassel onto the heart using the Linen Thread and Glue Gun (or alternative adhesive). Add a Basic Rhinestone to the Centre of the star.
Finally, I looped a piece of that divine and luxurious Cherry Cobbler Sheer Linen Ribbon so you can hang the heart where you want it.
I have added mine as the centre to my Door Wreath for this year.
